Saviolidis, Evan
Born into a Greek and English household, Evan has over 25 years of experience in the food and beverage industry, starting with the family restaurant at a young age. His knowledge and passion for food and wine, which he garnered in his youth, would come to serve him well when he was asked to open and manage restaurants in the eighties and nineties.
In the mid 1990s, Evan relocated from his hometown of Montreal to Niagara, to pursue his love of wine in earnest. After a stint working in the wineries, he applied to the International Sommelier Guild's Diploma program, where he graduated top of his class.
Today Evan teaches the Guild's Certificate programs in the United States and Canada. To date he has taught in over 15 locations in North America. Recently, he accepted the position of lead taster for winethisweek.ca, an online wine store dedicated to high quality, limited edition Ontario wines.
In 2002, Evan joined Tidings, Canada's most important wine magazine, as Niagara correspondent and contributing journalist. He is also founder of WineSavvy Consultants, a Niagara-based education and consultation firm which specializes in wine appreciation courses and tastings. His philosophy, when it comes to education, is to provide a fun and friendly approach to wine while at the same time taking the snobbery out of the subject. WineSavvy Consultants also provides services such as guest speaking, restaurant and industry training, wine list creation, and cellar evaluations.
Recognizing the quality of the curriculum offered at Winesavvy, Human Resources Training Canada officially certified the company's courses in 2004.
