Gordon Stimmell has spent the past 35 years studying wines from around the world. He grew up in Europe, and since moving to Canada has travelled extensively visiting wine growing regions globally and interviewing distinguished winemakers and producers.
Among honours received, Stimmell earned a diploma with highest honours at the German Wine Academy in Klostereberbach, Germany in 1991, and won the prestigious Norman Gilchrist Trophy in 1993, an award given only in some years by the Ontario Imported Wine and Spirit Association to the person who contributes most to expanding public knowledge about imported wines. Gordon was wine writer for The Toronto Sun for 10 years and wine columnist at the Calgary Sun and the London Free Press. He was Managing Editor and Senior Editor of Wine Access magazine.
Current wine related activities
Mr. Stimmell currently tastes and rates up to 6,000 wines a year, both in Canada and in foreign countries. He frequently contributes freelance articles and photography to various Canadian magazines. Gord is currently the wine writer at the Toronto Star and Starweek editor. He also acts as a judge at tastings and an expert at seminars.
